middle voice from a compound of φιλος, - philos G 5384 and τιμη, - time G 5092; to be fond of honor, i.e. emulous (eager or earnest to do something):--labour, strive, study.



φιλοτιμεισθαι 1 Th 4:11 And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you;
φιλοτιμουμεθα 2 Cor 5:9 Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him.
