probably akin to αιρω, - airo G 142; to take for oneself, i.e. to prefer:--choose. Some of the forms are borrowed from a cognate hellomai hel'-lom-ahee; which is otherwise obsolete.
αιρησομαι Php 1:22 But if I live in the flesh, this is the fruit of my labour: yet what I shall choose I wot not.
